SIMPLY USE THE DROP DOWN MENUS ABOVE TO TELL US THE BASIC DETAILS OF YOUR CAR & WE’LL GIVE YOU AN INSTANT NO-OBLIGATION QUOTE. WE WILL COLLECT YOUR CAR OR YOU CAN DROP IT OFF – IT’S ENTIRELY UP TO YOU

THE PRICE QUOTED IS BASED ON:

THE MAKE, MODEL & AGE OF YOUR VEHICLE (this determines how much the vehicle weighs)

THE VALUE OF SCRAP METAL AT THE TIME OF THE QUOTE (this can go up or down on a daily basis, so you may get different quotes on different days)

YOUR GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION (how far away you are from our nearest participating member)

WHETHER YOUR VEHICLE IS LIKELY TO BE SUITABLE FOR RESALE OR JUST FOR SCRAP (this will depend on the vehicle make, model, age & condition)

WHETHER IT IS LIKELY TO CONTAIN ANY SALEABLE SPARE PARTS (this will also depend on the vehicle make, model, age & condition)

If you have an old vehicle in poor condition, it is likely to be scrapped.

But if you have a newer vehicle, even if damaged or faulty, then it is likely to be worth more (either for repair & resale, or for spare parts) so our members will offer you more.

Not all MVDA members participate in this website, & not all MVDA members work the same way. Some only scrap cars, while others dismantle them for spare parts. And others sell damaged vehicles. Some even do all these things. This means that each member can value your car differently. This is why we display the 4 highest quotes.

You can see which MVDA members are currently participating in this scheme here.

There are a few other important conditions upon which the quotes are based, including:

Must be complete – if you have removed parts it will be worth less

Must be accessible & mobile – if it is in a locked restricted height car park or doesn’t have any wheels this will make it difficult to collect & worth less

Must not contain any extra rubbish

Must be yours to sell

MVDA is the Trade Association for the UK vehicle recycling industry. We represent the interests of our members & have since 1943.

Most of our work relates to the effect of UK & EU legislation on our members, how members can comply, and dealing with the problems it causes.

But because there is such a huge amount of illegal car dismantling in the UK (did you know that 600,000 vehicles disappear in the UK every year!?) we have set up this service to help our members buy more vehicles. AND to help assure the public that they are not inadvertently dealing with illegal operators.

All MVDA members must be fully licensed & all have an electronic link to DVLA to let them know when they buy, sell or scrap a vehicle.

We currently have about 200 member sites nationally, & every year they handle almost 500,000 vehicles and issue 35% of all DVLA Certificates of Destruction.

Our members employ almost 3,000 people in the UK.

Every year, they help to recycle almost 400,000 scrap vehicles, ensuring that valuable raw materials are recycled.

And they help millions of motorist keep their cars on the road by offering cut-price 2nd hand spare parts

ABOUT THIS SERVICE

WHAT IS MVDA

MVDA (the Motor Vehicle Dismantlers’ Association of Great Britain) is the Trade Association of the UK vehicle recycling industry.
Vehicle recycling can mean repair of vehicles, dismantling of vehicles to provide 2nd hand spare parts and/ or ‘scrapping’ of vehicles.
Our members carry out all of these activities, although not all individual members do all of these things.
You can find out more about MVDA by visiting our main website www.mvda.org.uk

WHY IS A TRADE ASSOCIATION BUYING CARS?

There has been a growing problem with illegal dismantling of cars for many years – it has now reached the level where it is undermining all legal operators & MVDA has decided to act to support its members. More than 600,000 cars disappear from the UK every year. Many of these are illegally dismantled in the UK. These illegal operators usually pay no taxes, pollute the environment, support other criminal activities, undermine legitimate UK industry, cause worry & concern for the public.
This website service is run by MVDA on a not-for-profit basis, for the benefit of our members.
You can find out more about MVDA by visiting our main website www.mvda.org.uk

HOW DOES IT WORK?

his website connects the vehicle seller to vehicle buyers (MVDA members).

MVDA itself does not buy the vehicles; it’s the MVDA members that do.

MVDA members wanting to participate in the scheme ‘sign up’ & have to meet certain minimum standards.

Each member uses the MVDA system to quote on those vehicles they are interested in buying.

These quotes are displayed to the seller, along with the quoting MVDA member’s details.

The MVDA member will then contact the seller to confirm details & arrange collection/ delivery & payment.

DO YOU BUY OTHER TYPES OF SCRAP METAL?

No. But some MVDA members do. Use our website search function to check for this.

MY QUOTE

DOES IT COST ANYTHING TO GET A QUOTE & IS THERE ANY OBLIGATION ON ME TO SELL THE VEHICLE?

No, all instant online quotes are completely free of charge & you are under no obligation to go any further.

HOW MUCH WILL I GET FOR MY VEHICLE?

It varies. Many factors are considered when calculating your quote. These include:

  • The make, model & age of your car
  • Whether the car is suitable for repair & resale, for spare parts or just for scrap
  • The value of scrap metal at the time of the quote (it can vary on a day to day basis, and from one area of the country to another)
  • The geographical location of the car
  • Whether the car is fitted with alloy wheels

For these reasons quote values can vary on a daily basis & from one area of the UK to another.

WHY IS MY LATEST QUOTE HIGHER/ LOWER THAN MY PREVIOUS QUOTE?

Scrap metal is a worldwide commodity and values change (either up or down) on a daily basis. Most scrap metal is nowadays exported form the UK, to places like Turkey, Greece, India & China. So depending whether scrap metal prices are rising or falling, your quote maybe higher or lower from 1 day to the next.

Some scrap vehicles are also more hazardous to handle than others (e.g. those fitted with LPG/CNG fuel systems). If you have one of these vehicles you must declare this when getting your quote.

HOW LONG ARE QUOTES VALID FOR?

7 days. After this, you will need to get a fresh quote.

CAN I DELIVER MY VEHICLE?

Yes, in most cases you can. And in some cases an MVDA member may pay slightly more if you choose to do this. This will have been shown when your quote was calculated. If you are not sure, ask the buyer when they contact you.

MY VEHICLE

MY VEHICLE IS IN AN UNDERGROUND, LOCKED OR RESTRICTED HEIGHT CAR PARK – WILL THIS AFFECT COLLECTION?

Yes. Collecting vehicles from these locations can be difficult & time consuming, & may affect the value of your quote. You must tell us during the quote process if there is anything that will make the collection of your vehicle difficult.

Your vehicle needs to be safely accessible to a recovery truck to allow it to be either driven or moved using a winch. If the vehicle is found to be inaccessible when the truck arrives, your collection may have to be rescheduled or cancelled, and you may even be charged for a wasted journey

MY VEHICLE IS BLOCKED IN BY OTHER VEHICLES– WILL THIS AFFECT COLLECTION?

Yes. Your vehicle needs to be safely accessible to a recovery truck to allow it to be either driven or moved using a winch. If the vehicle is found to be inaccessible when the truck arrives, because there are other cars parked too close to allow it to be safely moved without causing damage to other vehicles, then your collection may have to be rescheduled or cancelled, and you may even be charged for a wasted journey.

MY VEHICLE HAS FLAT BATTERY & WILL NOT START – WILL THIS AFFECT COLLECTION OR THE VALUE OF MY QUOTE?

No, as long as the vehicle is complete & is safely accessible to the recovery truck.

MY VEHICLE WON’T START OR DRIVE BECAUSE THE ENGINE HAS SIEZED OR THE CLUCTCH HAS GONE – WILL THIS AFFECT THE VALUE OF MY QUOTE?

No, not for scrap vehicles. But if you have been offered an ‘enhanced quote’ it may reduce the quote value. You should tell the buyer when they contact you to arrange collection.

MY VEHICLE HAS FLAT TYRES – WILL THIS AFFECT THE COLLECTION OR VALUE OF MY QUOTE?

No, as long as the vehicle is complete & is accessible to the recovery truck.

AFTER ACCEPTING A QUOTE

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE I HAVE ACCEPTED YOUR QUOTE?

Once you've accepted an online quote, you will be sent an e-mail confirming the quote details. You will then be contacted by the buyer to confirm your details & payment method and arrange a suitable date & time for collection of your car.

WHAT IF I CHANGE MY MIND ABOUT SELLING MY VEHICLE AFTER I HAVE ACCEPTED YOUR QUOTE?

You must tell the buyer as soon as possible, using the details on the quote e-mailed to you. If you do not tell them & a truck is sent to collect your vehicle, you may be charged for a wasted journey.

MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN COLLECTED BUT I HAVE LEFT SOME PERSONAL POSSESSIONS INSIDE IT – HOW DO I GET THEM BACK?

Once a vehicle has been collected it will often be disposed of very quickly. So you need to make sure that any personal possessions are removed BEFORE your car is collected.

AFTER MY VEHICLE IS COLLECTED/ DELIVERED

HOW DO I CLAIM BACK THE REST OF MY VEHICLE TAX?

On 1st October 2014 DVLA changed the vehicle tax system. Vehicle tax discs were abolished & it is no longer possible to pass on tax with a vehicle when it is sold or scrapped. There is also no longer any need to apply to DVLA to reclaim any outstanding tax. DVLA will now automatically refund to the (old) registered keeper (within 6 weeks) any outstanding tax when they are informed of a change of keeper.

So it is important that you let DVLA know immediately that you have sold the vehicle – do not rely on anyone else doing it for you. Fill in the yellow Section 9 (V5C/3, Selling or transferring your vehicle to a motor trader, insurer or dismantler) of the V5C registration document & send this to DVLA on the day you handover the vehicle to the collecting company. You should write the name and address of the buyer (not MVDA) as the Motor Trader/ dismantler to whom you sold the vehicle.

DVLA has recently launched an on-line service to allow you to inform DVLA that you have sold a vehicle to a motor trader/ dismantler/ insurer. Click here for more details.

Once DVLA has recorded that you have notified them of a change of vehicle ownership, they will send you an acknowledgment slip.

DO I NEED TO TELL DVLA THAT I HAVE SOLD MY VEHICLE?

Yes. You must do this immediately. It is your legal responsibility to inform DVLA that you are no longer the owner/keeper of the vehicle. Otherwise you could end up with a fine.

Fill in the yellow Section 9 (V5C/3, Selling or transferring your vehicle to a motor trader, insurer or dismantler) of the V5C registration document & send this to DVLA on the day you handover the vehicle to the buyer. You should write the name and address of the buyer (not MVDA) as the Motor Trader/ dismantler to whom you sold the vehicle.

The details of the company purchasing your vehicle will be on the confirmation email sent to you when you accepted your quote and will be on the receipt they give you at the time of collection.

WILL MY VEHICLE BE SCRAPPED AFTER COLLECTION?

Most vehicles collected will be scrapped.

However, if your vehicle is deemed to be suitable for repair or resale, it may not be scrapped. The decision whether to scrap or repair/ sell a vehicle may only be determined once the buyer has had a chance to thoroughly physically inspect it at their premises.

For this reason, it is important that you tell DVLA immediately that you have sold it – do not rely on anyone else doing it for you.
